What is Relay For Life?
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an overnight team event that raises money, honors survivors, remembers
those who lost their battle with cancer, joins communities and builds awareness of weapons for fighting a disease that touches
everyone.
Over the 17 years since the American Cancer Society Relay For Life's first lap was walked, volunteers and participants
have recognized a special bond that occurs when friends and neighbors spend time together joined toward completing a common
objective. Also, it is an symbolic demonstration that cancer doesn't sleep; cancer affects lives around the clock.
So, Relay For Life participants pledge to give one night.

Mission Statement
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating
cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research,
education, advocacy and service.
Why Relay?
- The power of Relay is that it allows a community to grieve for those lost to cancer and to celebrate the lives of those
who have survived.
- For the newly diagnosed, Relay offers an opportunity to meet someone who has survived the same type of cancer.
- For the cancer patient in treatment, Relay offers the opportunity to share with others.
- For the long-term survivor, Relay brings recognition that the community cares about their struggle and closure to a trying
time in life.
